Best Xmas Pressie for a Horse Lover!

So this client of mine, Claire, happens to have a really great and thoughtful dad who got her the best xmas present ever. He got her a surprise Equine Photo Shoot.

Now I'm sure you can all relate to receiving some presents from family members or friends and your like,"Oh thats fab! Thanks." But really your thinking, "Why did you buy me this perfume which reminds me of my Gran!" You have that awkward grin on your face and your quickly trying to change the subject, "Anyone for a mince pie?"

Maybe that's just me and my fault. I must admit I am awful at giving people ideas of what I would REALLY like for Christmas. I usually put everyone else first and don't mind what I get. Then I wonder when will I ever learn! But that can wait till another blog post, as this year I have changed my method and given out plenty of clues!!!! I hope..... fingers crossed.

About the Equine Photo Shoot Experience

Gordon called me and enquired about the equine photo shoot. And asked loads of great questions to check it was the right fit for his daughters xmas present;

"How long does the gift voucher last for?"

6 months, or as long as I have a booking in the diary by then.

"How far do you travel?"

I happily cover all of Central Scotland; Glasgow, Ayrshire, Edinburgh, Fife etc. As being based in Stirling I can access most areas within 1-2hrs, however if it is further away then an extra charge for petrol expenses can cover it.

"What is included in the Horse Photo Shoot @ £69?"
The voucher includes:
  • The photo shoot which lasts 1-2 hrs,
  • A private gallery to view all your digitally adjusted images.
  • My expertise throughout all stages of the process.
  • A 10x8 desktop picture.

"Do you provide a voucher I can give to her?"
Yes, no problem. So I can send it directly to you and you can hand it to Claire on the 25th, or I can post it out directly to your daughter, whichever you prefer. I can also send an digital version that you can forward to her if your not going to be together on Xmas day!

So happy that it was a good fit, Gordon bought the horse photo shoot, gave me all of Claire and her lucky horse' details.

Gordon was now all organised with Claire's Christmas present.

Prior to the Shoot

Claire and I had been in contact many times prior to the day of her shoot. Explaining what she could expect;
  • Different outfits to wear,
  • How to have her horse all ready
  • And generally putting her at ease, reassuring Claire that it was a really fun experience and to remember and enjoy it.

The day of the shoot!

When I arrived at Claire & Rocky' stables based in Newton Mearns, I could tell she was a little nervous but also really excited. The adrenaline was pumping. Rocky was looking grand! He is a grey pony, so he was looking really sparkly from head to toe.
I love horses and am always happy to get in there and help out;
  • Grooming
  • Applying hoof oil - I love the smell, totally reminds me of my childhood days!

(Believe it or not, one of my favourite memories of having my own horse, was perfecting his bed. He would have the biggest shavings borders, all even and packed, and a nice deep thick pile in the centre for my horse Tommy to lay on. Sad & weird I know! LOL)

Claire was in her whites as if going to a show, and had a lovely tweed jacket. So when the finishing touches were all complete we got started.

I usually utilise the backdrops that are immediately around the yard, unless my client has transport and we have already arranged to go to a near by woods. I would start by taking shots in the stables, around the yard, and then move to a nice treelined pathway and then perhaps some fields. Allowing for a change of outfit too.

I loved some of the shots we took by these trees. It allowed Rocky & Claire to relax, as these shots are a lot more natural. Not a lot of standing about. The horse also soon realises that he is not headed for the field and begins to calm down understanding that something different is going on.

We took a variety of shots around the lane then went to a nearby field. Which had a great open backdrop. The only slight draw back was being so exposed to all the elements. Fortunately it was a gorgeous day but it was a tad on the windy side. So when you are having to consider long manes, long tails and long hair on the owners it can get a bit overwhelming & windswept. But All the hair was blowing perfectly in this picture where Claire is giving Rocky a kiss on his nose!

We got some lovely shots up in the field and then head for a bit of shelter. We had a quick outfit change into something more summery and I think the white dress really suited Claire's blonde hair and Rocky's colouring too.

We headed back towards the stables and did a few close ups in the stable doorway. I love the contrast of them both in black & white while they have a snuggle. Very sweet!
